It is now day 6 of the ice storm aftermath. We still don’t have power or water. Thanks to our trusty generator, I am watching the super bowl though.. I have a number of goofy prop bets going and some straight bets. If PIT covers the spread, I’m in good shape. GO STEELERS!!!
Anyway, I’ve been sitting here being a little pissed off at my local officials here in Mountain View, Arkansas and I’ll tell you why. As you can see form my last post “2009 Arkansas Ice Storm“, this town and county has been through a lot of natural disasters in the last 12 months, yet our Mayor (Jim Cash), and our County Judge (Stacy Avey) still do not have out county of over 15,000 people prepared for crisis. after 9/11 the entire country should be ready for emergencies. In Mountain View, we are not!
Obviously they cannot do anything about the power outages, but running out of water? Are you serious? for two days after the ice storm hit, they had no power for the city water pumps, of course I guess they have never heard of generators. So, they cut off water to the surrounding towns in the county to save it for people within the county seat city limits..
Here is my issue with that:
1. there is only 2500 peopel within the Mountain View City limits
2. There is over 12,000 people outside the city of Mountain View
3. We are all tax payers and out tax money supports the city.. Our sales tax is 9.2 % btw which is unreal.
4. Our county officials are obviously not capable of doing their damn job!!
The Mayor Jim Cash and Stacy avey need to be removed form office. they have had plenty of time to prepare our county for situations like this, yet they have not and our tax money keep getting blown on new parks for the city, new trucks for city workers, raises for city workers, healthcare for city workers.
Arkansas and more locally our entire county has been declared a disaster area by the Federal government, but we have not seen or heard of any assistance from them. I do know that our County got over 1 million dollars following the tornado that hit last year, but it was used to fund more special interest projects within the county and not to prepare us for future natural disasters.
Here is another issue:
I filed a “Price Gouging” complaint with the Attorney General of Arkansas yesterday, there are several locally owed business in Mountain View that have jacked the price of gas, propane, and other much needed goods. the price of these items is more than double what the normal price is. the complaint I filed yesterday was on TD Building supply who is charging over $7 for a small camp stove propane bottle. They are normally 2 for $5, I know because I bought some before the storm hit. Gas has also been jacked up as have those 25lbs propane bottles.
so, I felt someone had to call these places out on this total BS. they should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of their local community in a time of need. I am lucky and can afford the extra few dollars, but I know plenty of people who cannot afford these ballooned prices.
Ok, I have some of this out of my system now. I’ll post some real stuff later but this website gets a lot of Arkansas traffic, so I thought I would inform everyone about the crap that is going on in my little part of the world.
